The story behind Hayden's Chip Shop.
Growing up in Kingswood, Dublin, the nearest chip shop was a 10 minute drive away. My dad got a business loan and wanted to open a chip shop in an empty unit at the shops in our neighbourhood. At the last minute, the council refused the change of premises application. 18 months later a chip shop opened by a family who already had other chip shops in Dublin. To say he was fuming was an understatement.
20 odd years later, he was living with me, here in Ryde. He was always moaning about the chip shops in the area, and particularly this shop, which he could see from my sitting room window. He always said if it came on the market, he'd love to take it over. Sadly, he passed in Oct 2021. In the summer of 2022, I found out the chip shop was for sale, I got the keys in December 2022 and the rest is history, as they say. Of course, I've named it Hayden's in his memory, and it's all come full circle. My Dad, the late Brendan Hayden.
